Local School Council

The Local School Council is a publicly elected group of Parents, Staff Members and Community Members and together serve as a governing body for Hamilton Elementary.

The LSC provides a wide variety of stakeholders an opportunity to make important decisions about how students in their communities will be educated.

Election Central

Elections for the 2024-2026 Local School Council term will be on Wednesday, April 10. It is a day of non-attendance for students while teachers conduct parent-teacher conferences. 


Polling Time & Location

Polls will open at 6:00am and close at 7:00pm. Parents (neighborhood and magnet), Teachers and Staff, and Community Members (who live within the Hamilton Elementary Boundary) are invited to vote at Hamilton for their representative.

Who You Vote For

Individuals cast up to five votes total. Parents vote for parent representatives, teachers and staff vote for teachers and staff representatives, and community members vote for community members. Teachers who are also parents at the school can vote for candidates in both categories. Parents who live within the neighborhood boundary can vote for a community representative. Students will be voting on Thursday, April 11 for their representative for next year.

Parents, teachers, staff, and community members have volunteered to run for the Local School Council. To learn more about the Parent Candidates please view their campaign statements below. They are ordered based on the random election order selected during the LSC Forum on March 19th.

Purpose and Proceedings

The Local School Council (LSC) is responsible for:

  1. Approving the school based academic plan or Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP)

  2. Approving the alignment of budgetary resources to the CIWP

  3. Engaging in the annual evaluation of contract principal’s professional practices

  4. Selecting or renewing contract principals

During the meetings we hear update from the LSC Chairperson, the LSC Subcommittees, the Hamilton Action Team and the Principal. Meetings are open to the public except for items related to personnel performance (i.e., principal review, retention and selection). Any closed meeting will be announced at least 48 hours prior, and will be announced as a “Closed Meeting.”

The Hamilton LSC has four subcommittees, three specifically devoted to a focus area of the LSC and a fourth made up of teachers called the Professional Planning Learning Committee (PPLC). 

For the 2023-2024 school year the LSC is excited to have a student member at our meetings who will update the council on Student Voice Committee Meetings and be a voice for the students in council matters.

LSCAB Elections (2023-2025)

The role of the Local School Council Advisory Board (LSCAB) is to advise the Board on issues related to Local School Council elections, operations, powers and duties, and school improvement plans.

Hamilton LSC Members are invited to vote for representatives to the Local School Council Advisory Board. Please view the candidate statements (starts at 6:50) and come to school to place your vote.
